Nesam Puthusu is a 1999 Tamil romantic drama film directed by Karthikvel and starring Ranjith and Priya Raman. The film revolves around a young couple who are forced to live as husband and wife due to some circumstances. The film was released on 1 October 1999 and received positive reviews from critics and audiences. The film also features Senthil, Vadivelu, Ajay Rathnam, and Kovai Sarala in supporting roles. Plot
Ranjith is a carefree youth who lives in a village with his uncle Chithappu (Senthil). He falls in love with Vasanthi (Priya Raman), the daughter of the village president (Sangili Murugan). However, Vasanthi's cousin (Ajay Rathnam) also loves her and wants to marry her. He plots to separate Ranjith and Vasanthi by creating misunderstandings between them. He also hires a goon named Suresh (Sakthi Kumar) to kill Ranjith.
One day, Ranjith and Vasanthi elope to Chennai with the help of Chithappu and Velu (Vadivelu), Ranjith's friend. They stay in a lodge where they are mistaken for a married couple by the manager. They decide to pretend as husband and wife until they find a way to get married legally. Meanwhile, Suresh follows them to Chennai and tries to kill Ranjith several times, but fails due to Velu's intervention.
Ranjith and Vasanthi face many challenges and difficulties in their new life, but they also grow closer and develop a deeper bond. They also meet Sumathi (Vaishali), a social worker who helps them in getting a job and a house. However, their happiness is short-lived as Vasanthi's cousin finds out their whereabouts and kidnaps Vasanthi. He threatens to kill her if Ranjith does not leave her alone.
Ranjith, with the help of Velu and Chithappu, rescues Vasanthi from her cousin's clutches. He also confronts Suresh and defeats him in a fight. Ranjith and Vasanthi then return to their village where they are welcomed by their families and friends. They get married with the blessings of everyone and live happily ever after.
